I'll always remember these guys. They were the first Scots I really had a chance to chat with after they came up to me in the cemetary. We talked about their religious backgrounds, the Da Vinci code, America, and more...

I was able to show them why they needed a Savior, and I pray they come to faith and trust in Christ one day.

Enjoy this video of a Scottish Bagpiper in the Highlands. I had a chance to give him a Million Dollar Bill Tract, which are currently being confiscated by the Secret Service because of the gospel message on them (see below). Take a look at his reaction and smile at the end of the video. Praise Jesus for fun tracts to give to people which God will use to lead them to Christ. Pray for all the people I gave them to in Scotland and London, that God would draw many to their need for Jesus.

LONDON TRAVELS

A TASTE OF LONDON

We arrived in London on tuesday and things have been nonstop since day 1. I have been amazed by the beauty of London, the rich history, the convenience of the tube subway system, the number of tourists that come here, the enormous number of polish I have met, the majority of self focused and ipod wearing and head down and no eye contact people on the streets or subway, the openness of people when approached to talk about eternity, the hospitality and love from christians here, the number of solid christians I met, and the Power of GOD to lead me to people so ripe for the gospel. I am amazed at how many people see their need for Jesus and what he will do with their lives now: young high schoolers, foreigners, university students, etc.

LONDON NEEDS MORE LABORERS REACHING THIS GREAT CITY...

GOD DRAW PEOPLE HERE FOR YOUR GLORY TO BE PUT ON DISPLAY WITH THE LOVE AND TRUTH OF JESUS CHRIST.

LAST NIGHT IN GLASGOW

Commissioning on our Last Night in Glasgow

Our team gathered together with the Nieucommunities leaders on our last night in Glasgow as a culmination of a week spent living a missional life in a new culture with a community of believers passionate for following Jesus and making him know to a city rich in Christian history, now a minority, but on the cusp of spiritual revival that only the spirit of God can and will bring.

The team left us with a few questions to ponder as we return to our comfortable lives in the OC:

*What is GOD calling me to?

*Where will I go?

*Who will I do it with?

So as I continue to reflect on these questions and wait on Gods next call, I know in the meantime my simple call to follow Jesus, be with Him, dig deep into His word, make disciples around me, and share His love in grace and truth.

LAST DAY IN GLASGOW

Traveling through Scotland

On monday, we spent the day north of Glasgow traveling through The Highlands, visiting a 13th century castle, taking pictures of all beautiful landscapes that God created and finishing the trip with a good dinner at one of the oldest pubs around.

10 days come to an end

It was hard to believe that our 10 days in Glasgow had come to an end. I have been amazed by 10 days straight of sunshine, which is not typical of glasgow with the usual rainy and overcast it usually is there. So even though I didn't get the full experience of Glasgow, I have been thankful to be reminded of home sweet home california which I will see in a few days after our travels to London.

VISITING CHURCHES - PART DEUX

After spending lunch with a few Scotts from St Silas to hear more about their journey of faith in Scotland, we had an afternoon to relax on our own. I walked around the city for a bit, had a coffee at one of the many Starbucks in town, and then met up with the missions team for prayer before the church service at 5.

Re:HOPE is the name of the church which was founded by nieucommunities and meets in a church building off of byers on the west end of glasgow. They have an opportunity to buy the church this summer so please keep that in your prayers.

The church has about 30 people that regularly attend. The worship is similar to Rockharbor and teaching is done by an american pastor.

I have had a great time getting to know many of the Scotts that go there. They each have a strong faith in Jesus and a desire for God to move and shine on their city.

VISITING CHURCHES IN SCOTLAND

Sunday Morning we visited St. Silas which is a local bible believing episcopal church next to Glasgow University. Our group sat down in different places so we could have a personal experience. As I sat I was greeted by young scottish girl and talked to her for a bit. Then I was approached by Pastor David Mccarthy who was also very friendly.

The church has about 300 active members. We started out with contemporary worship, some liturgy, a solid message on 1 Peter 1 dealing with holiness, a time of communion and then announcements.

It was really encouraging to see a solid church in the heart of Glasgow with a huge desire for personal holiness and an outward passion for the community surrounding them.

ANOTHER SCOTTISH TRADITION

On Saturday night, we were taken to what they call a KAILI. This is the scottish version of line dancing and provided for great atmosphere, unique sounds of scotland, and fun people to dance with.

We had a group dance that I was talked into doing by this older scottish woman. She forced me too but now I am glad I did because it was sooooo fun.

After that, as we looked for a taxi, we got to see how devastated with sin the city center was, clubs galore, pubs, and a spirtually dead climate. all for self gratifcation.

MANUAL LABOR @ LORD OVERTON'S ESTATE

Just outside where we were staying on a 30 minute train ride, we traveled to Stirling to help out on an estate that is being renovated to minister to young people. The countryside was gorgeous as we looked from the top of the castlelike home where DL Moody supposedly visited.

We were able to see the place where William Wallace was apparently captured by the English.

We helped clean both the parking lot and the brush that was then cut into firewood.

PUB NIGHT IN GLASGOW

On Friday night we had an intentional experience of pub culture in the city of glasgow. It was pretty eye opening to see how engrained community is with going to pubs. People of all ages gather together on a daily basis after their workday. Friday night was no different and it was probably more packed than normal. Grandparents, college students, working professionals, etc mingled together in a very social atmosphere.

We sat together to observe the environment over a beer. I steppped outside to grab some fresh air.

NOTE: smoking is not allowed in any public places anymore.

I was chatting with a couple smokers and a couple scots found out I was american and starting imitating what a surfer would sound like. We talked more and one guy asked if I was a ranger fan.

NOTE: The Rangers is a soccer team (football in Britain) that competes vs the Celtics. IE the Protestants vs the Catholics.

He said that he wanted to give some Rangers jerseys and we exchanged numbers but I haven't heard from him yet. He was a bit drunk so not sure if he would remember me.

Interesting night of Pub culture but worth the eye opening experience!.

A CONVERSATION IN EDINBURGH

We were in Edinburgh visiting the city which boasts such things as the famous Edinburgh Castle and William Wallace. I ran into a girl who was visiting on holiday from London. We talked for a bit about life and then we began discussing spiritual things. At the end of our discussion, she thanked me for making the gospel 'relevant' to her.

It was good to meet another person from London since we head down there in a few days to check out the city!

TRAIN RIDE TO EDINBURGH

Glasgow is about an hour by train to Edinburgh where we would see more of Scotland and its rich heritage. We visited a museum there and got to read about the history of scotland, the influence christianity had, learn more about william wallace, the famous scottish hero, and King James who is credited with the production of the King James Version of the bible.

I found the most amazing view of Edinburgh Castle on the roof of the museum. While I was up there, I got to talking with the elder worker there who was monitoring the roof. We spoke for a while about Edinburgh and I asked him what he had liked about it.

"Nothing really" he said.

I expressed that he had a lovely city with much rich heritage. I then asked him about his religious beliefs and he began to speak of the rangers soccer team which Is the protestant team there. He said that he questioned a lot about the bible and the effect religion has had on war. I think the Lord used me to encourage him to trust the bible more and begin to search it.

OUTSIDE THE 2ND OLDEST SUBWAY IN EUROPE

On our way to the subway, I noticed 4 high schoolers sitting outside the station and started up a convo with them. It turns out they were all muslims. I had the chance to discuss our need for forgiveness of sin and that jesus offered that to us. They had a hard time believing in Jesus because of what they had been told in school and I reasoned with them about the evidence for jesus and how he could be the only one to offer us eternal life. They appreciated the talk and I left them with a tract to think more about.

STARBUCKS EVEN IN GLASGOW

Our team had just gotten done going through a bible study on jesus feeding the 5000 and then explaining how he represented the bread of life for all men to eat to live forever. As we were walking out of starbucks, I saw a homeless man passing out magazines. I approached him and he began sharing how a friend of his had just died from an overdose. It was hard to understand his scottish at times but I listened intently and invited him to the church we were visiting. He asked if he could bring his girlfriend and asked if I'd be there. I passed on a tract with a gospel message as I left him and noticed him reading it as I left. Please pray for Rob and his salvation. How humbling it is to be used by Jesus when I am so not worthy.

The harvest is ripe and the workers are far too few.

CITY OF GLASGOW AND UNIVERSITY PRAYER WALK

We met up at the local starbucks before heading toward the Uni on a prayer walk. As we walked, we prayed for God to move in the students their, use the existing christians to proclaim Gods name and love, and draw all of glasgow to recognize their need for jesus and his love.

3RD OLDEST SUBWAY IN THE WORLD
We got on the subway to head to our next stop in city center. There we learned about the Glasgow City Mission, the oldest city mission in the world, which reaches out to drug addicts, the homeless etc. We had a great time interacting with the people there. I got to share some of the gospel with Stevie who is an older Scot with a catholic background who believes in reincarnation.

Learning more and more about Gods heart for the people in Glasgow.

2 SCOTTISH HIGH SCHOOLERS AND THEIR FAITH

We had just finished visited the Glasgow Cathedral and walked up individually to the monument for john stott and the many other figures in the cemetary. As I was walking around I was approached by two scottish boys. They recognized I wasn't from the area and wanted to talk. They were definitely glaswegion with their thick rustic accents. After talking for a bit, I asked them if they believed in Heaven and they said they believed in it but weren't sure they'd go there.

They asked me if I thought Mary Magdeline was married to Jesus. We talked about the reliability of the bible and evidence for Jesus not being married. I left them with a da vinci code tract and an invite to the local church here. They let me take a picture of them and then wished them well.

OUR FIRST OFFICIAL DAY IN GLASOW

We started our first official day here with a study in Gods word before heading out for a tour of the entire city. We were treated to some staple fish & chips and haggas and walked downtown in Buchanan Street which is one of the busiest shopping districts in Europe, very similar to Santa Monica with street performers and shops galore.

We then visited Glasgow Cathedral and had some reflection time on top of the necroplis hill where a cemetary of many old scottish patriots sits along with a monument to john knox.

Friends and Family,

1 week to go and I will be in Glasgow, Scotland. I'm so excited about what God has in store and finally feel ready to be there.

I saw the Da Vinci Code last night and just confirmed for me more than ever the need for Christians to be out there talking to people about the grace and truth of Jesus. Let us be spurred on as Christians to know the truth and evidence for our faith and may God use it to shine a light into the lives of people in need of our Savior.

Less than 2 weeks

Happy Mother's Day today!

I want to especially say to my mom that I'm so thankful for her giving me a sound biblical foundation and faith in Christ. You and Dad staying together for 30+ years along with your faith and perseverence in Jesus is the greatest gift a mom could give to her son.

Less than 2 weeks

In 13 days, I'll be leaving Los Angeles for the UK. I feel unprepared for this trip with all the other things I have going on right now with work and church keeping me so busy. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to experience this and for all your prayers and financial support. I feel attacked more than ever out here, lately dealing with much loneliness and temptation from my flesh. Part of me is so grateful to be able to share the good news of Jesus here in Orange County, but I know the enemy is trying to bring me down and take my focus off the many souls here in need. I need your prayers for now, but I can only imagine what Satan wants to do in these next two weeks, so I prepare for battle.

May all this be done in Jesus' Name and for His Glory,

18 Days and counting...

Wow, in 18 days I'll be getting on a plane to travel to Glasgow, Scotland! I will write more later, but thank you to each of you for your prayers, your financial support, your words of encouragements.

Wow, 1 Month to GO, until I GO!

The Countdown
Well, I was looking at the countdown until my trip, and noticed that It will be only 1 month before I leave for Scotland. Wow, how time flies these days!

Reflections from Easter
Easter has already passed us by, but was still a great source of refreshment and reminder of the price our Savior paid on the Cross. The Saturday before Easter, my church showed the Passion of the Christ, which provided me with a great time of reflection over the brutal suffering Jesus experienced to pay for all my sins.

The book of Isaiah prophecies about this experience (Isaiah 53) 700 years before the actual crucifixtion of Jesus, and vividly parrallels the actual events of Jesus. It even mentions that this Savior was beaton beyond recognition, so looking back at the suffering experienced in the movie, I cannot even imagine what actually took place.

Still, I'm humbled to even have the knowledge of this and to maintain strong faith in the integrity of Scripture, even with books like the Da Vinci Code and other claims in media, that try to dissuade people from what actually occurred.

There was a real Jesus of Nazareth, who lived, died, and rose from the dead. He claimed to be God in human form, and this is the God of the Bible, I serve and follow and know.

Well, it's been a couple weeks since I've told everyone about my trip and I'm almost halfway to my financial goal now.

A call from Jesus

One of the verses which has had the greatest impact on my life is Jesus' words to his disciples in the first chapter of Acts before he ascended into Heaven:

Acts 1:6 When the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, "Lord, are you going to free Israel now and restore our kingdom?" 7 "The Father sets those dates," he replied, "and they are not for you to know. 8 But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Orange County: Should I just stay here?

Orange County is beautiful and provides some of the best weather in the country, as you'll see in the pictures of the pier that is two blocks from my apartment. But...

...there is so much more to "life" than being in the OC, while the world around us and as far as Scotland and beyond need to hear the message below:

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. 18 "There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him. But those who do not trust him have already been judged for not believing in the only Son of God. 19 Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 They hate the light because they want to sin in the darkness. They stay away from the light for fear their sins will be exposed and they will be punished. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light gladly, so everyone can see that they are doing what God wants."

A friend's experience in Scotland

I hope this email from my friend who did missions in Scotland, gives you another perspective of the people and where God's taking me:

"Hey Ken, your trip sounds great! I know you'll have a fantastic time. There are some really rich ministry opportunities, especially where you'll be in Glasgow among the youth. Responses tended to be great with friendship building. My trip there was almost 5 years ago now, hard to believe! Most of our time was spent in smaller towns: West Kilbride (about an hour west of glasgow), Arbroath (a fishing town near Dundee), and Dumfries, a boarder town.

The culture is so unique to Scotland it's hard to describe. It was urban for the most part with traces of their history in almost everything....although not enough kilts and bagpipes anymore but what can ya do. I'd be curious to see if you sense the same hopelessness/depression in the atmosphere as I did but it was more pronounced in the smaller towns. I really believe it has a lot to do with their history of oppression. I'd talk to high schoolers about what they wanted to do when they graduate and they'd say something along the lines of:

"i dont care just as long as I'm away from here."

They're desperate for someone to show them how there can be more to life than what they've known.

When I was there I could just feel God's huge heart for revival in the land. It's exciting to hear about how ministries there are doing and that teams like yours are going in to help."

Background of Scotland

Religious History
Once a devoutly religious nation, one could say that Christianity has played a more influential role in the history of Scotland than in any other part of Great Britain. Between the Celtic Christians, Catholicism, and the Reformation, Scotland has had a fiery history, but that flame now burns very dimly. And yet you will find that they are a people with a story to tell and a culture to share. Situated in West Central Scotland approximately 100 miles from the English border, our NieuCommunities team has created a home in the city of Glasgow.

Glasgow History
Originally founded circa 1175 AD, Glasgow is now Scotland's largest city with over 3/4 of a million people and an additional million in the surrounding communities. Glasgow is very Scottish, youthful and diverse and is a cosmopolitan city that is full of contrasts. With three Universities and almost a dozen Colleges there are over 45,000 students in Glasgow.
